Oyebanji Approves Career Elongation For Bursars’ Cadre In Public Secondary Schools.

Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has approved the elongation of the terminal Salary Grade Level of Bursars of Public Secondary Schools in the State from Grade Level 14 to 15 with effect from 1st May, 2025.

Chairman of the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Mrs. Rhoda Ojo made this known in Ado Ekiti during a meeting of the Commission with the leadership of Labour Unions and Associations including the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASSUS), All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) and Conference of Bursars of secondary schools (COBUSS).

Mrs. Ojo however stressed that only Degree holders and Higher National Diploma (HND) holders with Post Graduate Diploma Certificates in relevant fields would benefit from the newly approved career elongation.

The TESCOM Chairman stated that the approval is part of various education policies and programme of the present administration aimed at fostering high standard of teaching and learning that is driven by qualitative and motivated personnel, as well as motivation for supporting staff in public schools.

She urged workers in the State to reciprocate Government’s kind gesture by diligently and effectively attending to their duties in order to promote the shared prosperity agenda of the present administration.

The Permanent Secretary in the Commission, Mr. Michael Boluwade, in his remarks, stressed the importance of living up to their responsibilities, emphasizing that “to whom much is given, much is expected”.

He also warned against truancy and forwarding unreliable returns to the commission, stressing that anyone on protracted medical off duty should be officially reported to the Commission for necessary actions and supports.

Responding, the State Chairman of Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Comrade Sola Adigun who was represented by the State Secretary, Comrade Bamidele Adeola expressed appreciation to the governor for seeing to welfare of workers particularly teaching and non-teaching staff in the State.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr. Lawrence Egbeyemi, who was represented by the Publicity Secretary, Comrade Joseph Adeola, pledged the continued support of his union for efforts of Government to develop the State and improve the welfare of workers.

Other union and association leaders present at the meeting are the State Chairman of Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Comrade Toyin Fagbamila, President of All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Mr Akinbode Oke and the State President of the Conference of Bursars of Secondary Schools (COBUSS), Comrade Kayode Ojo.
