The State Commissioner for Works, Mr. Sola Adebayo who made this known in Ado-Ekiti while featuring on Ekiti Loni/Ekiti Today, a live audience participation programme on Radio, said the planned road construction initiatives are part of the present Administration’s broader vision to create a more connected and accessible Ekiti State.
The Commissioner stated that the proposed projects would span local government areas in the three senatorial districts of the State stressing that Government was keen at ensuring that both urban and rural communities benefit from these infrastructural enhancements.
The proposed new projects are; rehabilitation of Oke Ayedun – Ipao – Oke Ako – Irele road in Ikole Local Government, reconstruction of Awo – Ara – Ijero road, reconstruction of Ijan – Ise road, reconstruction of Ikogosi Township road and reconstruction of Itawure – Okemesi – Ijero.
Others are the construction of the Petim Dualization road, construction of Ajila Jakande Crescent -Roads 10 & 13 in GRA 3rd Extension and the rehabilitation of De-Head – Basiri road, all in Ado-Ekiti.
He disclosed that the Oyebanji Administration had since assumption of office in October, 2022 embarked on over 16 road projects some of which had been completed, some substantially completed while others are at various stages of completion.
While emphasizing the strategic importance of these projects in boosting economic activities and facilitating smoother transportation across the state, the Commissioner noted that the projects underscore the administration’s unwavering commitment to improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for all residents of the State.
“The planned road construction initiatives are part of our broader vision to create a more connected and accessible Ekiti State. By addressing critical infrastructure needs, we aim to stimulate local economies, reduce travel time and improve the overall living conditions for our people,” said Mr. Adebayo.
The Commissioner also urged residents to support these initiatives, noting that the success of the projects relies on community cooperation and understanding, especially during the construction phases.
He noted that Ekiti State Government remains dedicated to advancing the state’s development agenda through sustainable and impactful infrastructure projects.
Adebayo disclosed that Governor Oyebanji is working with the Federal Government to make all Federal roads in Ekiti State motorable, adding that the Federal Minister for Works, Senator David Umahi recently visited the State to assess the deplorable conditions of all the federal roads.
Speaking on the precarious condition of some federal roads in the State, Adebayo stated that federal roads like the Igede-Aramoko-Itawure road, the Omuo-llasa -Ayedun-Ikole Road and the Ado-Ijan-Agbado road needed outright reconstruction and not the yearly palliative rehabilitation being done by FERMA which he described as ineffective.
He promised that his office would continue to work in synergy with the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) for quick intervention of all roads that are in deplorable conditions across the State.
