Highlights Of The State Executive Council Meeting Of 30th April, 2024

May 2, 2024

1. EKITI STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL APPROVED N112,268,921.12 TO PROCURE 20 ADDITIONAL DINO BINS
Ekiti State Executive Council approved a sum of N112,268,921.12 for the procurement of additional 20 single 12CBM Dino Bins with rollers through direct acquisition.
The approval for direct purchase was premised on the existing technical partnership to tackle environmental challenges on Waste Management and transfer of knowledge and technology between the Ekiti State Waste Management Authority and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) which led to the construction of 20 suitable, made-to-last Dino Bins manufactured in the State under the collaboration.
The Executive Council noted that the volume of waste being generated within Ado Ekiti is increasing daily due to rapid urbanization of the city and the 20 Dino Bins earlier fabricated in the collaboration with LAWMA would soon become grossly inadequate to collect the large quantity of waste being generated in the metropolis. It was therefore agreed that production of more Dino Bins will go a long way in ensuring a cleaner Ekiti.
The Dino Bins are expected to be completed and delivered within 45 days after mobilization.
2. EXCO ALSO INSTITUTED COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION
Concerned about the poor compliance with the routine environmental sanitation exercise and noting the important role Environmental Sanitation plays in the maintenance of sound public health and the fact that poor hygiene practices, lack of adequate sanitation and unsafe water can contribute to the spread of preventable diseases such as cholera or typhoid, the State Executive Council proactively instituted a committee to look into the State’s environmental sanitation system and come up with a holistic framework that will engender improved and sustainable sanitation practice in the State.
The Committee is made up of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Dayo Apata as Chairman; Commissioner for Environment, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe; Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Mr. Folorunsho Olabode; Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani; Commissioner for Trade, Industries, Investment and Cooperatives, Mrs. Omotayo Adeola; Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Gold Adedayo and the State Chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr. Oluwasegun Ojo.
The State Government remains committed to ensuring a clean, healthy and safe environment. This involves maintaining a clean and hygienic environment that is free from contaminants, pollutants, and disease-causing organisms.
Environmental sanitation exercise is to protect public health and by keeping our surroundings clean, we can prevent the spread of diseases. For example, if garbage is lying around, it can attract flies and other insects that transmit diseases.
