Ekiti State Crosses 10,000 Milestone In First Week Of COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign

March 28, 2021

The Government of Ekiti State is announcing that it has crossed the 10,000 milestone in the first week of the rollout of the state’s COVID-19 Vaccination campaign. Governor Kayode Fayemi flagged off the exercise on Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 during the State Executive Council meeting, after which the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services rolled out the mass campaign last week at vaccination sites across the 16 local government areas (LGAs) of the state.

It is now reported that the state’s medical officials have administered 10,354 first doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccines. The breakdown of the statistics shows that 2,547 persons were vaccinated in Ado LGA, 363 in Efon LGA, 604 in Ekiti East LGA, 763 Ekiti South-West LGA, 746 in Ekiti West LGA, 307 in Emure LGA, 450 in Aiyekire LGA, 1056 in Ido/Osi LGA, 414 in Ijero LGA, 523 in Ikere LGA, 578 in Ikole LGA, 265 in Ilejemeje LGA, 650 in Irepodun/Ifelodun LGA, 362 in Ise/Orun LGA, 270 in Moba LGA, 456 in Oye LGA.

“This milestone reached in a short time shows that the vaccine has been well received by members of the public. A large and growing number of people have also indicated interest in taking the vaccine. We are building on this momentum by strengthening the capacity of our health systems to provide more coverage and protect our people against the COVID-19 virus,” says the state’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani. The Honorable Commissioner also reported that the vaccines have been well tolerated by all the recipients, with only one person requiring observation.

The vaccination campaign is designed in phases to ensure equitable access across the entire state, while prioritizing our frontline health workers. Currently, 4,701 health workers and 4,015 other frontline staff have been vaccinated.

Ekiti continues to lead as a model sub-national government with integrated and holistic responses to tackle COVID-19 and cushion its economic impact on the people.
