Governor Fayemi’s Aide Cautions Against Flouting Of COVID-19 Protocols

The Chief of Staff to the Governor of Ekiti State, Hon. Biodun Omoleye has urged citizens of the State to diligently observe laid down protocols of the COVID-19 pandemic in order to protect themselves and others from contracting the deadly virus.

Hon Omoleye who stated this in an interview with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Friday said the deliberate disregard for rules guiding against large gathering and the use of facemask in the public by many people is worrisome.

He said the government’s decision to relax the lockdown rules was hinged on the need to open up the economy so that the whole nation would not slip into a terrible recession, adding that easing of the lockdown should not be mistaken for an end to the pandemic.

Omoleye said, “This is an infectious disease but it is sad to note that the protocols in place to help stop the spread of the virus are being flouted with impunity and it is about time for all of us to take the responsibility of staying alive and healthy seriously because health itself is wealth.”

According to him, there is a need for enforcement agencies to go tough on imposing sanctions as spelt out by the law on defaulters to serve as a deterrent to recalcitrant people.

The Chief of Staff maintained that the Fayemi led administration would continue to prioritize the public health of its citizens and would continue to strife in its fight against the pandemic.

He said; “even as we approach the opening of worship centers and that most communities are celebrating their festive period, they should not jeopardize their health by disregarding measures put in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“The virus is more than real and you don’t know who has the virus because most carriers are asymptomatic. People should learn to take personal responsibility for safeguarding their health seriously.”
