COVID-19: EKSG releases 153 test results from its Molecular Laboratory

Ekiti state government has disclosed that out of 246 samples taken since the inception of the use of Molecular laboratory in the state 153 test results have been released.

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Mojisola Yaya-Kolade gave the disclosure while briefing Journalists on the update on the Covid-19 pandemic in the state.The Commissioner who said 11 patients were tested positive added that 142 patients tested negative. She noted that the 8 patients in the isolation centre did not require oxygen to breathe, indicating that they were responding to treatment.

The Coordinator of the State Taskforce on Covid-19, Professor Mobolaji Aluko said Ekiti had only recorded 35 cases in all noting that security at the borders needed to be tightened as a result of likely possibility of community spread of the Virus in the state.

Professor Aluko who said all the guidelines on Covid-19 was still intact and should be adhered to added that 8 pm to 6 am curfew must be observed while Churches and Mosques remain closed.

The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Mr. Gbenga Agbeyo opined that the state government could not guarantee the hygienic status of the people at the Viewing Centres, stressing that the use of facemasks by some people was awkward.

Mr. Agbeyo explained that Adere, Awedele, and Agric. Olope markets were opened for traders to display their wares and move away from blocking the highways while Oja Oba and Bisi markets remain shut.

The Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Aare ‘Muyiwa Olumilua reiterated the commitment of the state government to reopen the neighbourhood markets, saying that social distancing and other Covid-19 principles should be maintained.

Aare Olumilua who re-emphasized that community testing with Molecular laboratory would commence next week thanked the journalists for their cooperation and understanding.
