The First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu ‘Bisi Fayemi has stated that the State Government would be relentless in its fight against all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the State.
Erelu Fayemi disclosed this during her advocacy visit to the Ministry of Information and Values Orientation in Ado Ekiti.
The Governor’s wife, who described the three main forms of violence against women as physical, sexual, and psychological, said conventional statistics put victims at one out of three women.
She urged the Management of the Ministry of Information and Values Orientation to intensify efforts at sensitizing the public, particularly the perpetrators of this heinous crime to stop or rot in jail stressing that the GBV law had been revised in October 2019.
The wife of the Governor who enumerated the reasons for people to be careful about violence against women and children said, the act destroys lives, erodes self-esteem and confidence, brings educational opportunities to a halt, also noted that it destroys families and communities as well as increases HIV/AIDS rates and other serious health conditions among others.
In his response, the Commissioner for Information and Values Orientation, Aare ‘Muyiwa Olumilua, posited that parents and guardians should train their wards particularly male children on how to handle their female counterparts’ jealousy.
Aare Olumilua who eulogised the wife of the Governor for her various contributions on the growth and development of the State, most especially on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) issues thanked her for the august visit.
