The Ekiti State Government has discharged five confirmed Covid-19 patients out of the ten active cases at the state infectious disease centre after their second test came back negative.

The Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr ( Mrs) Moji Yaya- Kolade disclosed this on Monday during the 48- hourly briefing by the State Covid-19 Taskforce in Ado- Ekiti.

Dr Yaya- Kolade, also revealed that two out of the three new cases confimed over the weekend, were contacts of the Doctor in the isolation centre, while the third was said to have sneaked into the State from Kano before he was quarantined.

The Commissioner said the State Government has increased the bed capacity of the isolation centre from ten to one hundred in preparation for any eventuality with the support of Access Bank Plc.

She said : “We are discharging five people out of the ten that are currently in the Isolation centre. So five of them are okay now, they are negative of Covid-19.

“Basically, we are just coming from the Isolation centre, we had three new cases that came in. They are two health workers and one person sneaked in from Kano and he tested positive.

“For the last three cases because the other man came directly and we got the information at the screening centre, he was quarantined, so he was not in contact with so many people, we have just nine contacts that we are tracing from him. The remaining two were tested before and were negative but on the repeat test, they came back positive.

“All our positive cases are in the Isolation centre and stable, they are asymptomatic but at the same time we don’t take anything for granted.

Also the coordinator of the Taskforce, Professor Bolaji Aluko said the taskforce members were worried at the increasing influx of people from other states into the Ekiti through illegal routes.

He said they have had to turn people back at the boundary towns to where they are coming from so as not to spread the infection which could overwhelm the state health infrastructure.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Gbenga Agbeyo also disclosed that the fumigation of markets, environment where index cases are reported and other public places in the State was being sustained and carried out four days in a week- Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
