World Bank to Partner Ekiti on Development, says Country Director

The World Bank is set to engage in a strategic partnership with Ekiti State government in a bid to contribute to the developmental efforts of the Dr Kayode Fayemi-led administration in the state.

The Country Director, World Bank, Nigeria, Mrs Marie Francoise Marie-Nelly gave the assurance during a meeting with Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi at the bank’s office in Abuja on Monday.

Governor Fayemi had led some members of the state’s economic team to the meeting, which was   attended by top officials of the international financial body. The meeting explored various areas of collaboration and assistance between Ekiti and the Bank.

Mrs Marie -Nelly, who lauded the various developmental initiatives of the Ekiti State Government, said the World Bank was set to partner with the state  in a bid to realize some of its  developmental goals.

The World Bank Country Director, said the Bank would assist Ekiti State in critical areas, including procurement reform, Information and Communication Technology, education, budget preparation, urban water scheme and agriculture.

She hailed the state for its low prevalence HIV/AIDS rate, adding that Ekiti was a strong candidate for partnership.

Earlier, Governor Fayemi had identified some of the programmes of the government aimed at reducing poverty in the state and improving the quality of life of its citizens. These include the Social security support for the elderly, job creation for the youth, life academy, water scheme, renewal energy, community participation in budget planning as well as newly established office of Transformation, Strategy and Delivery, among others
