All Set For The 3rd Ekiti State Sports Festival

Preparations for the 3rd Ekiti State Sports Festival are in the top gear as the Chairman of the State Sports Council, Prince Ade Adetola addressed newsmen in his office at Ado to herald the staging of the festival between 19th and 25th August, 2012.
Prince Adetola said that the Sporting Programme is aimed at discovering the hidden talents among the youths at the grassroots, adding that local athletes who are residents in the state are eligible to participate irrespective of their state of origin since the organizers of the programme will not condone the use of mercenaries .

According to the Chairman, the accredited games for the week-long sports fiesta include Athletics, Volleyball, Table Tennis Basketball, Badminton, Chess, Judo and Hockey.
Adequate security would be put in place with the joint efforts of security patrol to ensure a hitch-free event while several sub-committees would work hand-in-hand with the Main Organising Committee for a successful programme.
Among the approved centres for the sports Festival are the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Federal Polytechnic, Ado, Sports Centre, Trade Fair Complex and SUBEB Hall all in Ado Ekiti.
Adetola who disclosed that the programme would not end without its financial benefits to the outstanding local governments, said the best
three local governments would be rewarded with N750,000, N500,000 and N250,000 respectively in addition to other incentives.
He appreciated the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for making available money to fund the festival, adding that all stakeholders would do their best to justify the government’s financial involvement.

Parts of the activities marked up for the festival are arrival of the torch of unity at the Governor’s office, opening and closing ceremonies to be performed by the Governor between 20th and 24th August, 2012.
