Technology giant, International Business Machine (IBM) has presented the report of its finding and recommendations to Ekiti State Government on strategies that will improve smart governance, e-education and Citizens Information Management System.
The IBM team on Wednesday submitted its report at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
On smart governance, the objective of the IBM team was to develop a framework to enable workflow automation and improve efficiency for the state Government to contract award and payment between. Ministries and agencies.
To this end, the team recommended the establishment of an inter-governmental paperless system for official documents to enhance easier sharing of information and internal collaboration. Contracting process was also redesigned to address problems associated with bureaucracy, especially file movements.
The team at Ekiti State University Ado Ekiti and the Ministry of Education reviewed the computing technology assets of the varsity,restructured its website navigation and provided Human Resources training sessions for administrative personnel.
A review of the e-school project of the Fayemi-led administration by the team identified the vision of the project to include positioning Ekiti students to compete in the global marketplace with a resultant effect of creating a magnetic environment for investment.
The team also examined the deployment of a standardized identification solution for the social security scheme for the elderly; recommending e-service solution focusing first on improving the identification management and later shifting attention to automated payment.
Speaking on the efforts of the IBM team, Governor Fayemi described the partnership with the technology giant as a crucial performance enabler and game changer for Ekiti State as effective application of ICT will help the State build a more accountable system.
Fayemi who thanked the team for buying into the vision of his administration restated the resolve of the administration to eradicate poverty and develop the human capital which the State is known for.
He added that the administration will not be deterred from creating a society that everyone will be proud of.
In his remarks, IBM’s country General Manager for West Africa, Mr Taiwo Otiti lauded the State Government for the hospitality enjoyed by members of his team; saying that the gesture is unparalleled.
Otiti said IBM’s intention is to assist the Government of Ekiti State actualise its 8-point agenda and lay a solid foundation for future growth and enhance its human development initiatives.
