…as EKIRS Commences Enumeration

Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service (EKIRS), today, commenced the enumeration and tagging of landed properties under the State’s Land Use Charge (LUC) Law with the residence of the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi at Isan Ekiti in Oye Local Government Area of the State.

The Chairman of the EKIRS, Mr. Olumuyiwa Ogunmilade commended Governor Fayemi for what he described as leadership by example, saying that the Governor did not hesitate to give his approval and, in fact, encouraged the flagg off of the enumeration exercise from his house in order to lay good example for the citizens.

Mr. Ogunmilade urged people in the State to emulate the Governor’s example by being receptive to the LUC law, adding that demand notices would be subsequently issued after the enumeration and tagging to indicate the amount to be paid by each property owners.

Ogunmilade recalled that the LUC law was passed seven years ago stressing that it was not peculiar to the State as the neighbouring Ondo State recently shared about 100Million Naira between the State and Local Governments as proceeds from their LUC.

According to him, the LUC comprises the Ground Rent, Neighbourhood Development Levy and Tenement Rates, adding that the new development makes it easier to collect the levies and distribute among stakeholders in the Local Government on monthly or quarterly basis.

The IRS boss said that regular payment of taxes would also empower the people to challenge Government on how the money is being spent, noting that fortunately, the State is currently being governed by a cerebral gentleman who believes in transparency and accountability.

Earlier, when the EKIRS boss led his team on a courtsey visit to the traditional ruler of the community, the Onisan of Isan, Oba Ayodele Adejuwon commended the Fayemi led administration for its various development strides across the State.

Oba Adejuwon however pledged, on behalf of people in the community, to support the efforts of Government to boost its IGR in order to be better positioned to rapidly develop the State.

In his remarks, the Chairman of Oye Local Government, Hon. Foluso Ojo who spoke through his Vice Chairman, Hon. Mrs. Abimbola Ameobi pledged their support for the success of the implementation of the LUC law, adding that from all indication, the LUC would add value to revenue generation and development in the State.
