…as Governor commissions health projects in Aramoko

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji has disclosed plans by himself and his siblings to build a maternity ward within the General Hospital Complex in Aramoko-Ekiti, in memory of their late mother.

The Governor disclosed this on Wednesday in Aramoko- Ekiti, while commissioning the Doctor and Nurses quarters built and donated for use by a member of the state House of Assembly ( Ekiti West Constituency 1), Hon Tajudeen Akingbolu.

The Governor who stated in his speech that he was born at the Aramoko General hospital , said he was impressed by Hon Akingbolu’s gesture to the community, adding that himself and his siblings will raise funds to build a maternity ward in memory of their late mother within the hospital complex.

Oyebanji, however, told the gathering that the maternity ward would be built by money put together by himself and his siblings and not from the coffers of the government. This, he said, is to enable them name the maternity ward after their late mother upon completion.

The Governor who hailed Hon Akingbolu for giving back to his immediate community, called on well meaning citizens of the state to emulate the lawmaker’s good gesture as well as other philanthropists like Aare Afe Babalola and Chief Wole Olanipekun and give back to their towns in form of schools buildings, hospitals, health centres, library, or any other needs within the community.

The Governor who also commissioned a health centre built by the Ekiti West local Government Council shortly after the Doctors quarters, said both projects were product of efficient and effective representation.

Lauding the council chairman, Hon Sesan Okere, Governor Oyebanji explained that when a community has good representatives in government, development would move at a rapid pace.

“This is what you get when you elect quality people at local government level, I am not surprised you did this, your commitment and your love for your people is enduring and you are not just starting. What you have done today also reinforces my belief that for any government to bring prosperity and development to its people, the local government is very key, because they are closest to the people and I have absolute confidence in the ability and capacity of the local government structure in this state to deliver development.

“Very soon, we’ll be coming up with our strategy to make local government more effective, and what I have done by releasing capital grants to local governments is to test their capabilities to deliver, and I’ve not been disappointed.

“What makes me happy is that there is healthy rivalry and competition among local governments and LCDAs in that state. All of them are trying to do one thing or the other, as I speak, my wife is in Ikole commissioning projects executed by the local government. I have a lot of requests of Chairmen calling me to come and commission projects and I’m so happy about this because the people that placed us here have their own expectation as this money belongs to them. He stated.

For Hon. Akingbolu, the Governor said, “I want to appreciate God in the life of Hon. Akingbolu for allowing God to use him to give back to his people as it is always very difficult to give. What we are seeing today is what happens when people elect people of impeccable character and track record of dignity to represent them in positions of authority Hon. Akingbolu, you have done this for your people, and I am extremely proud of you.

“I commend Hon. Akingbolu for pulling resources together to carry out such a project. I am so impressed that an Honourable member could pull resources together to give back to his constituents”.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the local government, Hon. Olusesan Okere commended the giant strides Governor Oyebanji was making towards developing the state adding that his administration had been responsive to the yearnings of the people as he said he was not unaware of the extreme economic challenges facing the people.

On his part, Akingbolu said he decided to embark on the Doctors quarter project out of three other projects begging for attention due to the fact that it had formed the major request of the community for many years, especially during budget proposals. He commended Governor Oyebanji for demystifying governance by ensuring rapid development of the state within 200 days in office thereby etching his name in gold.
