Community Communications

To bridge communications gap between the government and the people, help the incumbent government sustain the goodwill and relationship already built with Ekiti people, work with relevant government establishments and stakeholders with the aim of making the government responsive and responsible to the people.

To ensure members of the public are adequately informed about Government’s activities, programmes, and actions by deploying all communications channels towards engendering  strong grassroots engagement and participation through consistent and sustainable ideas.

The Structure of the office of the SSA Community Communications consists of:

  1. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

There are 143 communities in Ekiti with different needs that are yearning for government’s attention. To ensure regular engagement with the communities, a 5 man Community Engagement Committee that will, among other things, alert the government through my office, of any critical issues needing intervention, will be set up using the traditional rulers platform.

Members of the committee will be drawn from the following categories:

  • Palace chiefs
  • Community Development Union
  • Community youth leader
  • Iyalaje / iyaloja group
  • Political leader of the ruling party residing in the community.

 

  1. TOWNHALL MEETING

An organized engagement with 500 stakeholders drawn from all sectors of the community for enlightenment and feedback.

 

  1. DIGITAL MEDIA

Production of creative visuals in form of visuals, info-graphs, e-flyers that highlight important information about government programs and projects.

 

  1. OUTDOOR SENSITIZATION

Billboards highlighting important information on key projects will be mounted in strategic locations across 3 Senatorial Districts of the state. There will be update on project information when necessary.

 

  1. PERIODIC PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUCEMENT

To ensure all citizens have access to timely information about opportunities or warnings from government, regular announcement that carries messages that are  in the public interest will be on all communication platforms to raise public awareness, change behavior.

 

  1. PROJECT TOUR

Selected Stakeholders and influencers SM, who will be drawn from different strata of the State will be taken on site seeing of ongoing/completed project once a year preferably during government anniversary.

 …As ALGON Pledges Renewed Support For Oyebanji -led Govt.

The Ekiti State Government has set machinery in motion to consolidate Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s efforts at running an all inclusive Government as well as ensure meaningful connection between it and the people at the grassroots through effective and constant communications engagement to foster grassroots participation in governance.

In a bid to achieve the lofty goal, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotoso, held a meeting with  leadership of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Ekiti State Chapter in her office in Ado-Ekiti.

Mrs Omotosho while intimating the ALGON executives with her work plan and areas of collaboration said she commenced engagement with various stakeholders identified to be critical to achieving an impactful community communications disclosed that upon her appointment, she embarked on data gathering and stakeholders mapping to make sure no citizens will be left out in the course of communicating government’s achievements, policies and programs.

She said that the meeting was part of efforts to seek partnership with relevant stakeholders to impact citizens saying “if we want active participation, we must take government to the grassroots.” She noted that Governor Oyebanji puts Ekiti people  first in all his agenda hence his  mantra of “together with you , let’s keep Ekiti working “ stating that Mr Governor runs an open government where every citizen has a “say”.

“We must therefore ensure that there is a strong bond between the Government and the people. This is why my office is seeking a robust collaboration and synergy with ALGON in the area of community engagement, sensitization, and advocacy”, she added.

In his reaction, ALGON Chairman, Hon. Bode Adetunji congratulated  Mrs. Omotoso on her appointment and  extolled Governor Oyebanji for creating the office of the SSA Community Communications, describing it as one of the best decisions Governor Oyebanji has taken as it will help deepen government’s impacts at the grassroots.

Hon. Adetunji, who expressed utmost confidence in the SSA said that the Oyebanji -led Administration has showed readiness in taking the State to the next level. He then pledged ALGON’s continued support for the  administration.

Highlights of the meeting was the presentation of a roll- up flex bearing the six-points development agenda of the Governor Oyebanji’s administration to  ALGON  as well as a document containing expected areas of collaboration.
