The Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services has provided an update on the ongoing COVID 19 Vaccination Campaign. This update states that Ekiti is one of the four states in the country to have successfully attained 100 percent coverage of the target set at the beginning of Phase 1 of the exercise.

According to the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, this development was revealed in a report by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), released on Saturday, May 15, 2021. The first phase of the vaccination campaign was flagged off in the state on the 10th of March 2021, when the Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Kayode Fayemi led other members of the State Executive Council and health workers to receive their first doses of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine.

The report states that Ekiti, Cross River, Lagos and Kwara states all attained the 100 percent mark, achieving their set targets for the first dose administration. *In total, Ekiti state has successfully vaccinated a total number of 48,170 eligible persons.* The report also states that a total of 1,794,552 Nigerians have received the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines across the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Dr. Filani said, “It would be recalled that shortly after the flag off, we deployed 78 teams comprising six health workers each to deliver the AstraZeneca shots across the state. We subsequently announced that the state had crossed the 10,000 milestone in the first week of the rollout of the state’s COVID-19 Vaccination campaign.”

“We have now taken delivery of an additional 40,000 doses of the vaccine and the second phase of the vaccination campaign would soon commence,” Dr Filani added.

Ekiti state continues to lead as a model sub-national government with integrated and holistic responses to tackling the COVID-19 pandemic and mitigating its economic impact on the people.
