Communities in Ekiti State that do not have access to pipe borne water would soon have a new lease of life as the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi on Friday assured that shortage of water supply will be addressed in the proposed 2013 budget.
The Governor gave the assurance during his town hall meeting at Ekiti East, Ilejemeje, Moba and Gboyin local government areas; saying that several millions of naira would be expended on Ero Dam which serves about nine local governments even as representatives of the State at the National Assembly have pooled resources together for the turn-around of the dam.
Fayemi who hinted that the dam would undergo rehabilitation while the State water corporation would be re-organised added that five water treatment plants in Ido Ile, Okemesi, Ipole Iloro and others would be commissioned this week.
He added that Egbe and Itapaji dams would also be transformed for optimum water supply all parts of Ekiti State, even as he said that all pipes that got damaged due to construction works on the roads would be replaced with new ones.
The Governor said that government would however dig solar-powered bore holes in some areas pending when the laying and replacement of new ductile pipes would be done.
On the termination of on-going construction of 5km roads in Ilejemeje local government, Fayemi said this was due to the poor handling of the roads by the contractor to whom the road was awarded; saying that it has now been re-awarded and the contractor will mobilize to site early next month so that the roads could be completed in December.
This, he said, is to give room for the construction of another round of 5km roads in all the 16 local government areas even as his administration targets the construction of 80 km each year in the council areas.
