Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi says his administration has successfully attended to the yearnings of the State workforce in spite of the meagre resources that accrue to the State.
Speaking at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium Ado Ekiti, venue of the 2012 May Day celebration, the Governor said the priority that his administration accorded to the welfare of workers was not unconnected to the fact that they form the engineroom of government; adding that this was why nothing was too much to be given to them.
Dr. Fayemi said that though the State is 35th on the federal allocation ladder, it is one of the few States that have paid the new minimum wage to its workers across board; stressing that aside the approval and payment of the #19,000 minimum wage, it has also implemented special salary packages for health and medical workers.
Other packages, according to the Governor, included clearing of backlog of promotions, restoration of Car, Land and Housing loans while training and retraining of workers have been revived to enhance their effectiveness.
“In appreciation of workers’ contributions towards the achievement of the 8-point agenda of this administration, government has increased the salaries and improved the conditions of service of public servants in the State, in spite of the meagre resources available. In this regard, Ekiti State is one of the few States that have paid the new minimum wage to workers.”
While commending labour unions for the harmonious relationship that exists between them and government through dialogue and understanding, the Governor said the high sense of determination,cooperation and tolerance which workers have displayed was commendable and urged them to continue with such so as to smoothen the unity between government and labour.
Fayemi added that his administration had put in place a civil service transformation strategy which is aimed at ensuring effective, professional and result-oriented civil service and urged them to key into the strategy so as to develop the State and take it to the next level.
“I wish to use this medium to appeal to you to key into the Civil Service Transformation Strategy by being proactive, efficient, effective, transparent and impartial in the discharge of your official assignments so that as stakeholders, we can develop our State and take it to the next level.”

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Mrs Funmi Olayinka, Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Ganiyu Owolabi, Head of Service, Mr. Bunmi Famosaya, the Chief of Staff, Mr. Yemi Adaramodu and the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Ibrahim Maishanu among others.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the State President of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Mr. Ayo Afolalu who died in ghastly motor accident along Benin-Ore road last month.
