The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin has said that the passage of the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill, 2013 currently before the State House of Assembly would further enhance peace and stability in the state.
Speaking in Ado-Ekiti while receiving stakeholders in the Justice Sector led by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Wale Fapohunda, Dr.Omirin noted that though Ekiti is the most peaceful state in the country, all hands must be on deck to maintain the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the state.
The Speaker assured that the House would expedite action on the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill and other related bills on the administration of Justice in the state.
He said the proposed bill would become another milestone in the democratic development of the state. In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Mr. Wale Fapohunda explained that the visit to the House of Assembly was to dialogue with the lawmakers towards ensuring a speedy passage of the Ekiti State Administration of Criminal Justice Bill and other allied bills pending before the Assembly.
Mr. Fapohunda highlighted other pending related bills before the House to include Customary Courts Bill 2013, Ekiti State Arbitration Bill 2013, Magistrate’s Courts Bill, 2013, Ekiti State Law Review Commission Bill, 2013 and Right of Persons with Disability Bill 2013.
Noting that all the bills are targeted towards positive achievement of justice for Ekiti people, the Attorney General said that the Administration of Criminal Justice Bill was aimed at reforming criminal justice administration in the state, adding that it would also reduce the member of pending cases in courts and assist in fighting crimes in the society.
Stakeholders and members of civil society groups that accompanied the Attorney General included representatives of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Echoes of Women in Africa, Partnership for Justice and Human Rights Agenda.
