On-Going Transformation In Agricultural Sector In Ekiti To Create 20,000 Job – Arowosafe

Ekiti State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Mr. Babajide Arowosafe has said that revolution in the agricultural sector of the state’s economy would create over 20,000 Jobs for Ekiti youths and raise the State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state by 100% at maturity.
The Commissioner  disclosed this at the ministerial press briefing organized by the Ministry of Information and Civic Orientation in Ado-Ekiti.
Arowosafe noted  that N10 million has been committed to the acquisition of 150,000 cocoa and 250,000 oil palm seedlings for the 2012 planting season, adding that 15,000 farmers would be supported with Agro-chemicals and fertilizers worth N46,000 each.
Mr. Arowosafe disclosed that the state  afforestation Project is on-going at Eporo/Ose forest reserves in the southern part of the state, while young farmers have been supported by government to cultivate 750 Hectares of rice to boost food production in the state.
He pointed out that Eight officials of the Ministry of Agriculture have undergone series of trainings on the development of cocoa production in Ekiti State.
Mr. Arowosafe explained that two (2) of the officials were currently being trained in Indonesia on cocoa rehabilitation while six have concluded their trainings.
