Lawmaker Offers antidote for Ecological Problems

The ecological problem confronting some communities in Ekiti State needs combative and proactive measures on the part of stakeholders to address the menace.

The Chairman of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Lands, Housing and Environment, Hon. Gabriel  Ogundele made the assertion in Ado, while speaking with newsmen on the menace of gully erosion ravaging the state.

Hon. Ogundele, who represents Efon Constituency in the State Assembly, pointed out that a  recent oversight function of the lawmakers to communities like Efon-Alaye, Ado Ekiti, Ikere Ekiti and Okemesi among others highlighted the devastating effect and damage wrecked by gully erosion on the various communities.

According to him, twelve out of the sixteen local government areas in the state are seriously affected by erosion, which had grossly affected houses, farm land and properties in the state.

He called on the Federal Government, relevant government agencies, World Bank, European Union and other Developmental agencies to come to the aid of the state in tackling the menace, noting that Ekiti government alone cannot solve the problem.

The Chairman Council of Obas in the State, the Owaoye of Okemesi land, Oba Gbadebo Adedeji had during the visit of the House Committee to his domain, pleaded with President Goodluck Jonathan and well-meaning Nigerians to assist Ekiti State in solving the environmental problem.
