L-R: Wife of the Ogoga of Ikere, Olori Margret Adegboye; her husband, Oba Samuel Adegboye; and Governor Kayode Fayemi, at the Palace of the Monarch, in continuation of the Local Governments tour, in Ikere.

Communities in Ikere Local Government on Tuesday rolled out drums to celebrate as the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi inaugurated five infrastructural and human capital development projects.

There was heavy traffic congestion as youths, market women, transport unions and other community members trooped out to welcome the Governor at Fagbohun end of Ikere, and ushered him to the town, in convoy of vehicles and motorcycles.

The projects inaugurated included 10 units of lock up shops at Afao Ikere, 2 new Health Centres at Kajola and Ogabodi, 2 new halls at the Ogoga palace and newly constructed Skills Acquisition centre at the School for the Blind, Ikere.

The town hall meeting was preceded by a courtesy call on the paramount ruler of the town, Oba Adegoke Adegboye who later at the meeting tabled the community’s requests before the Governor.

Oba Adegboye had earlier commended Fayemi for the various projects sited in Ikere and highlighted the requests to include the dualization of Ikere-Akure road to the State’s boundary, the reconstruction of Ikere-Ilawe road, Ikere-Ijan road, and Ikere-Ijare road leading to Ondo State.

A visibly elated Oba Adegboye said he foresaw Governor Fayemi occupying a higher office in the nearest future, adding that his transformative leadership style is unparalleled.

The monarch also appealed to the Governor to expedite action of the provision of pipe borne water to the Ikere Community, stressing that the people of the community depend solely on an MDG motorized bore-hole. He said government action on Ogbese Dam would help reduce the plight.

Other requests by the community leader are the construction of a modern market, resuscitation of Ikere Quarry and a Fire Service Station.

Responding to the requests, Governor Fayemi reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the promises he made concerning the projects being done in the communities; stressing that “our word is our bond”.

The Governor stated that enumeration work has begun on the proposed dualisation of Ikere-Akure road, and the State Government has approached the Federal Government for approval to construct the road and efforts are in top gear to finalize agreement on the construction.

On water, he explained that government is working to revive the EU water project in Afao-Ikere so that it can serve the need of the community pending when ongoing work on the water sector is completed.

Fayemi explained that the State is already in talks with the federal government to get the dam completed even as he opined that it would be included in the 2014 budget of the federal government.

The Governor also assured that his administration has not reneged on its promise to build a modern market in the community but explained that the original site for the proposed market is small and may require demolition of nearby buildings to free up space for the market; adding that government has decided not to jettison demolition and relocate the market from Oju Oja to Odo Osun area of the town.

On the fire service station, Fayemi stated that work is ongoing to rehabilitate the fire station in the town and would deploy personnel and equipment to the station as soon as it is completed.
