Former Head of Service in Ekiti State, Elder Segun Bankole has solicited for more collaboration of groups, individuals and corporate organisations with the state government to boost sports development in the state.
Speaking during the 6th edition of the annual Table Tennis Competition he sponsored for Primary Schools, Elder Bankole explained that the focus of the event was to support grassroots sports towards enhancing chances of discovering budding talents.
Bankole who is currently a Commissioner in the State Civil Service Commission expressed happiness that several talents including Tosin Oribamise, Eniola Blessing and Abayomi Martin who are Contemporary World Champions in Cadet under-15 Table Tennis Championships were discovered at a previous edition of the tournament.
He commended the organizers of the programme as well as the State Table Tennis Coach, Mr. Olabode Ajayi for their contributions towards the success of the competition.
Bankole however urged the participating pupils not to allow the game to distract them from their academic pursuit. Earlier, the Chairman of the State Sports Council, Prince Ademola Adetola lauded the contribution of the sponsor to boosting sports activities in the state.
He solicited more support from members of the public in order to take sports to an enviable height in the state.
Also speaking, the State Civil Service Commission boss, Alhaji Afolabi Ogunlayi commended the leadership quality of the State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and his giant stride in the sports sector.
Alhaji Ogunlayi also challenged the youths on the need to contribute their quota to the development of the state through their active involvement in sports.
Prizes and trophies were presented to outstanding players at the Competition among whom are Ajayi Temidayo, winner of the boys’ category and the runner up, Adetokunbo Dele as well as Oladejo Afusat and the runner up Sunday Damilola in Girls’ Category.
