Fayemi Visits Family, Urges Nigerians To Emulate Ade Ajayi

The late Professor Emeritus Ade Ajayi was an ambassador of Ekiti State who is worthy of emulation, Governor Kayode Fayemi said during a condolence visit to 1, Ojo Ibadan Street, Old Bodija, the Ibadan home of the foremost historian in Oyo State.

According to the governor, the late professor held the Land of Honour value of Ekiti State in high esteem while he lived, describing him as one of the foremost ambassador and an icon of the Fountain of Knowledge State, who promoted honour and integrity as a scholar. Governor Fayemi, who was represented by his deputy, Prof Modupe Adelabu commiserated with members of the deceased family and urged them to celebrate the man he said left a good name.
“On behalf of Ekiti State government, I have come to say Rest in Peace Dear Daddy, our pride and great national icon,” he wrote on the condolence register.

He was received by the first son of the family, Dr. Niyi. The governor noted that the late Ajayi, will no doubt be missed by the academic community for his contribution to the state, nation and the world in the areas of the development of African history which pre-dated the Nigeria independence. Commiserating with the wife and children of the deceased, who according to him will miss him most, the governor admonished them not to mourn Prof Ajayi, but celebrate him for an enviable life and strive to live up to the memorable legacy icon left behind by the icon.
Reminiscing on the life and time of his late father, Dr. Ajayi described him as very loving but a  strict father who ensured that his children were all brought up to relate cordially and treat fellow human beings with all dignity irrespective of their social, academic or religious status.
Though the family will definitely miss him, nevertheless, they to take solace in the comfort of the Holy Spirit and the legacy their father left behind.
