Fayemi Restates Resolve To Promote Transparency, Equity And Accountability

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has reiterated his commitment to the practice of transparency, equity, accountability and cooperation between the political class and the Civil Service in order to achieve a high quality service needed for sustainable development, growth and good governance.
Dr Fayemi made this assertion while declaring open a seminar on e- Governance organised by the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON) in Ado Ekiti for all states Heads of service, Permanent Secretaries, Directors of ICT and Chief Executives of MDAs.
The Governor who spoke through the Secretary to the State Government Dr Ganiyu Owolabi said that the gesture would eliminate waste as well as facilitate a speedy, transparent and efficient process of performing government administrative activities.
Fayemi explained that he embarked on Civil Service reforms in the state in order to give it a new vision and mission stressing that he remained focused on institutionalizing an enviable Civil Service that can complete favourably among its peers across the nation.
Governor Fayemi noted that the provision of training and retraining opportunities , conducive working environment and an Information Technology-driven service (e-Governance) has made workers more conversant with the use of computer system in discharging their roles for improved service delivery, adding that the gesture would contribute immensely to making Civil Servants more proactive and result-oriented.
According to him, the continued growth in science and technology, with the corresponding impact in every facet of human endeavour, has over the years, created lots of opportunities and challenges in modern societies.
He stressed the need for governments to align with current realities in globalisation and information technology network.
Commending ASCON for being an arrow head in the effort to propel the application, availability and use of ICT in governance in Nigeria, Governor Fayemi noted the efforts of ASCON in capacity building and contribution to good governance.
He announced the provision of office accommodation for ASCON in the state to enhance its laudable contribution.
The Head of Service of the Federation, Alhaji Isa Bello who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Establishment and Records, Charles Bionat, said an action plan in the formulation of Technological, Social, Cultural, Psychological and Social Components to run altitudinal changes required by civil servants in the promotion of e-governance in Nigeria would be developed at the end of deliberations at the seminar.

He however, appealed to governments at all levels to allocate adequate funds that will ensure the implementation of e-Governance policy.
Earlier, the Director General of ASCON, Mr. Ajibade Peters stated that e-Governance could be a veritable tool for the transformation in the way we do things in e-Administration, e-Democracy and e-Business while the seminar will enhance the promotion of the implementation and evaluation of Policy, Plans, Programmes and Projects to ensure high quality service delivery in Nigeria Public Service.
He however, commended the Dr. Fayemi –led Administration in cooperating with ASCON and for the provision of an office apartment in Ekiti State as ASCON operation office.
