Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi on Wednesday shelved the weekly State Executive Council meeting which was scheduled to hold at 10am in order to pay tribute to the late President of the State chapter of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Comrade Ayo Afolalu and three other members of the Union who died in a ghastly motor accident along Benin-Owo road last year.
The three others who were involved in the accident included Comrades Olukayode Afolalu, Akinyemi Lucas and Ojo Ojomu.
The Governor, who got to the first year remembrance service organised by NULGE for the deceased at about 10 am, charged Ekiti workers to emulate the diligence, passion and “extra-ordinary commitment” of the late Union President whose death he described as a great loss to the State especially the Local Government Service.
Fayemi said people who knew the late Afolalu would wish he were alive because of the quality service he rendered to both staff of the local governments where he had worked and the State itself.
While commending the leadership of the Union for remembering the life and time of the deceased, Governor Fayemi assured that Government would not relent in supporting the families of the deceased; adding that members of the Union should also extend their support to them.
Meanwhile the State Head of Service, Mr Bunmi Famosaya, the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Chief Ranti Adebisi and workers from the State and Local Government service were also at the event to pay their respect and pray for the deceased.
