Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has described the death of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Haruna John and other three police officers in a helicopter crash on Wednesday as a “big tragedy of monumental proportion.”

The Governor in a condolence message on Thursday said the officers’ death in the course of a national assignment has robbed the Nigeria Police and the nation of committed, dedicated and loyal officers who were always ready to ensure that peace reigns in every part of the country.

Fayemi urged the Police and other security agencies in the country not to allow the tragedy discourage them in the effort  to ensure that peace returns to the city of Jos and other trouble spots in the country.

He also lamented the fact that Haruna died just twenty days after his promotion to the rank of DIG,  describing him as one of the finest operations officers who has proved his mettle in the various formations he had served in the past.

The Governor also called on the Federal Government and the Nigeria Police to immortalize the victims of the crash and ensure that the ideals for which they lived are kept alive to motivate their colleagues still serving in the Force.

Fayemi also prayed God to grant the Acting Inspector General of Police, Mr. Muhammed Abubakar, the Nigeria Police and the families of the deceased the fortitude to bear the loss of the patriots who paid the supreme price in service of their fatherland.
