Fayemi Decried Neglect Of Primary Health Centres By Previous Administration

July 21, 2012

L-R: Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Mrs. Funmilayo Olayinka, Wife of the Board Chaiman, Mrs. Funmilayo Lawal, Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi and the Chairma n Boad of Primary Health Care Agency (PHCA) Member, Dr. Mrs. Aderonke Samuel, During the Innauguration of the Board of Primary Health Care Agency in Ado-Ekiti.

Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi has blamed citizens’ lack of confidence in the primary health care on the neglect of the 293 Primary Health Care Centres by previous administrations.

The Governor who expressed his displeasure with the neglect said that the large number of people who tropped out to participate in the quarterly Free mobile health mission was a testimony that people have lost confidence in health care facility at the primary level.

While inaugurating the Board of the State Primary Health Care Develoment Agency in Ado Ekiti, Dr. Fayemi described the inauguration as a formidable step to make health care service delivery in the State a “fait accomplice”.

The new Agency which has been signed into law, is saddled with the responsibility of articulating the policies of the Fayemi-led administration in the primary health sector with a focus on “means and measures to harp on preventive rather than curative health management”.

“This event of the inauguration of the Board of the Primary Health Care Development Agency should therefore be seen as a step towards providing holistic health programme for the good people and residents of Ekiti state. The ultimate aim is to make health care service delivery affordable through preventive interventions without compromising standard”, he said.

The Governor added that since it was better and less traumatic to embark on preventive measure, his administration had decided to deploy efforts and resources to nip preventive diseases in the bud.

While restating his resolve to wipe poverty out of the State, Fayemi said the greatest mark of poverty all over the world is worsening health conditions; stressing that the unacceptability of this to his administration is responsible for the administration’s commitment to building a healthy and productive populace.

He restated the commitment of his administration to ensuring a healthy population upon which the development of all strata of the socio-economic life of the State would be anchored.

The Governor who charged the Board members to deploy their expertise, knowledge and creativity to enhance the efficiency of the Primary Heaslth sector, said his administration is keenly interested in results and not intentions.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated board, Dr. Folayan Lawal promised that the Board would settle down to study the situation and proffer solutions to combat all preventable diseases.

He assured that the Board would not disappoint Ekiti people in delivery affordable and quality health to the people.

Other members of the Board include Dr. Titilola Samuel and Chief Mrs Remi Oluborode.
