July 8, 2013

Ekiti State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has condemned the killing at the weekend of 29 students Government Secondary School, Mamudo in Portiskum Local Government of Yobe State by suspected terrorists.

The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olayinka Oyebode, described the killings as ungodly, reprehensible and savagery taken too far.
The latest act of terror, according to the Governor, is an indication that much work still needs to be done on the nation’s security.

Governor Fayemi  expressed dismay that the attack took place when the state was under emergency declared by President Goodluck Jonathan last month, and called for a more strategic approach to the government’s response to the offensive against the Nigerian State by the suspected Boko Haram Sect.

The Governor urged security agencies in the country to do all within their power to bring the perpetrators of the heinous act to justice. Specifically, he called on security agencies to strengthen their intelligence mechanisms to prevent a repeat of such dastardly act.

The Governor sympathised with the families of the slain students and prayed God to grant them the courage to bear their losses.

“The government and people of Ekiti State symphatise with the good people of Yobe State and especially families of the students over the unfortunate development. We hope that our security agencies will review their strategies in order to put an end to this senseless killings by the suspected terrorists and restore peace to the region”, the statement added.
