L-R: Wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi; and one of the beneficiaries of the monthly social welfare fund of the Office of the Wife of the Governor, Miss Oluwaseun Akindahunsi, during the disbursement ceremony, in Ado-Ekiti.

More than 80 citizens of Ekiti State, including two upcoming musicians, benefitted from the monthly social welfare and empowerment fund disbursement by the Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, on Tuesday.

Over N4m was shared to the people across the 16 Local Governments to solve personal crises, such as payment of medical bill, school fees, as well as empowerment to boost their business.

Stressing that the gesture had no political undertone, Erelu Fayemi said that the programme, which started about three-and-a-half years ago, was initiated to put smiles on the faces of indigent citizens across the state irrespective of political affiliation.

The First Lady added that the Dr. Kayode Fayemi-led administration was very passionate about the welfare of the people.

She prayed that those collecting the money to solve personal crises would find relief, while she advised those in need of the money to set up businesses or boost their trade to make judicious use of the assistance.

She promised that the administration would continue to initiate programmes that would banish poverty from the state and appealed to the people to say good things about the government anywhere they found themselves.

Erelu Bisi Fayemi said, “I started this scheme about three-and-half-years ago. I, therefore, want to make it clear that it has no political undertone. My office has been doing this on a monthly basis. Sometimes, we roll over the months if other exigencies did not permit the disbursement in a particular month.

“I initiated this scheme to support the people of the state. And I will continue to support them in any way I can. The essence of being in government is to assist the needy and we will not shy away from this.

“My only appeal to the beneficiaries is to ensure that they speak well of this administration. Please tell your neighbours about what you benefitted from the office of the wife of governor. When detractors are saying otherwise, please don’t keep quiet.”

The two upcoming musicians, Temitope Akinyemi and Segun Ogunsakin, a.k.a. Chesky, said the money they received would assist them in releasing their own albums.

A student, Miss Oluwaseun Akindahunsi, also applauded the gesture, saying she would use the money to pay her school fees.
