The Special Adviser on Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Mr. Kayode Jegede has assured that the Ekiti state government will not relent efforts at boosting the supply of potable water to all parts of the state.
Mr. Jegede gave the assurance at a forum organised to mark this year’s celebration of the World Water Day.
The Special Adviser noted that the present administration has increased the supply of potable water from 40% coverage to 60%.
He explained that 20 kilometres of water pipelines are being laid in new areas of Ado and other local government areas of the state while new dedicated pipelines was being laid from Ifaki to Ado to boost supply of potable water to people in the Iworoko, EKSU and Ado-Ekiti axis.
Jegede assured that the World Bank Assisted Water and Sanitation Programme will soon kick off in Ekiti State as well as Bauchi and Rivers states. According to him, government will soon achieve more than 80% coverage of supply of potable water to the people with the intervention of development partners in the sector.
The Special Adviser also added that 7 generators would be supplied to the 7 booster stations across the state to boost government’s effort at providing potable water to the people.
He advised people of the state to form the habit of drinking at least 8 cups of water daily to enhance good health.
The theme of this year’s World Water Day Celebration is “Water, water everywhere only if we share – Water Cooperation”.
