EKSG Commences Dredging Of Waterways

Ekiti State Government has commenced the dredging of Ita-Eku/Mercyland, Awedele/Basiri, Ajere/Omisanjana waterways in Ado-Ekiti as part of efforts to avert flooding in the state capital.

The Commissioner for Housing and Environment, Mr. Paul Omotosho wmade this known in Ado Ekiti, explained that the project was expedient  in view of the recent flood incidents in the country.

Mr. Omotosho said that the dredging will also protect buildings around the areas, adding that the state government would leave no stone unturned in its efforts at protecting lives and property of people in the state. The Commissioner noted that the state government has also embarked on other erosion control projects in the state capital,  Ikere, Okemesi, Igede and Efon Alaaye.

Charging the people to stop dumping refuse and erecting buildings on waterways, Mr. Omotoso reaffirmed the commitment of the Ekiti State Government to the provision of a conducive environment that will attract local and foreign investors to the state.

A resident of Moferere area in Ado-Ekiti who spoke with Journalists, Alhaji Raman Abubakar express his gratitude to the Fayemi led administration for what he described as proactive measures that will definitely secure lives and property of people in the area.  According to him, residents of the area had appealed to successive administrations in the State for concrete steps at combating the perennial flood and erosion problems in the area, adding that government’s gesture was therefore worthy of appreciation.
