Ekiti State to Harmonise Revenue Collection to Eliminate Multiple Taxation

The Chairman of the Ekiti State Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Isola Akingbade has said that revenue collection in the state would be harmonized to removing multiple taxation.
Mr. Akingbade who made this known in Ado Ekiti at a meeting he held with Revenue Collectors from all the 16 Local Government Areas as well as all government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state assured that government was working towards eliminating multiple taxation, stressing that the proposed  harmonization of all revenues by the Joint Tax Board (JTB) would enable each tier of government  identify and have firm grip on particular revenue that fails under their respective purview.
He directed the collectors to provide a list of revenues currently collected by them, emphasizing that the data collected would serve as inputs to a National Amendment of revenue collectable by respective tiers of government.

Akingbade said that the proposed harmonized revenues would be forwarded to the State House of Assembly for consideration and passage into law.
Stressing that Local Governments are not permitted to make Revenue Acts without the consent of the State Board of Internal Revenue, the IRS Chairman cautioned local government officers against mounting road blocks to collect revenue, adding that local government officials must be conversant with the types of revenue the law permits them to collect.
He emphasized that road taxes do not fall under the category of taxes LG officers are authorized to collect.
