As Ekiti State Government continues to call on the Federal Government to avail it funding support to address the various ecological challenges facing it, the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi has hinted at a possible partnership between the governments at the State and Local levels to curb the natural menace.

The Governor made this known in Ikole- Ekiti while inspecting some areas badly damaged by erosion during the October edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise in the town.

Dr. Fayemi said since some councils are working on the dredging of blocked water channels, the State Government would tackle the worrisome ecological problem by partnering with the councils for the success of the channelisation exercise.

This, he said, would prevent citizens from losing their lives and property to dangers that could emanate from ecological challenges.

On the adherence of citizens to the sanitation exercise, the Governor stressed the importance of environmental cleanliness; saying that this leads to hygienic living.

Fayemi said that government is providing public toilets at strategic locations in the State in order to prevent open defecation and a spread of communicable diseases.

On the Governor’s entourage were the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Eniola Ajayi, her counterpart in Information and Civic Orientation, Tayo Ekundayo, Special Adviser on Governor’s office, Chief Biodun Akin-Fasae, and the Chairman of the State Waste Management Authority, Hon. Adebayo Morakinyo, among others
