Ekiti State Government has removed a violent mentally challenged man of unknown origin from the street of Ado-Ekiti, the State Capital.

The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Mojisola Fafure, who made this known while addressing newsmen in Ado-Ekiti, said that the mentally challenged man was always stark naked, violent, and had become a menace to the society.

Reiterating the commitment of the Fayemi-led administration to the welfare and security of the people, Mrs. Fafure explained that the man was removed from the street out of concern for the security of the lives and properties of the people as well as to possibly rehabilitate him.

Mrs. Fafure said that the State Government considers the sight of an unrestrained naked and violent man on the street as not only an eyesore but also very hazardous and an embarrassment to the entire community.

She added that the government would continue to promptly address such cases, stressing the need for all and sundry to support Government efforts by reporting similar cases to relevant authorities for proper attention.

In his remarks, the Executive Secretary of the Office of Disability Affairs, Mr. Ayodele Ibikunle, lauded the support of the Commissioner to his office to assist and rehabilitate the mentally challenged in the state.

He also expressed gratitude to the Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi as he recalled that Erelu Fayemi was a major factor in the rescue of a mentally challenged woman that was chained for two years in a private residence at Odo Aremu in Ado-Ekiti.

According to him, the mentally challenged woman was rescued last week and is currently receiving treatment at Government Relief Rehabilitation Centre.
