Ekiti Distributes 5000 Jackets, 2000 Helmets To Motorcyclists

In furtherance of its commitment to the safety of motorcyclists and their passengers in Ekiti State, the State Government on Thursday distributed 5,000 reflective jackets and 2,000 helmets to cyclists operating in the State.The distribution of the safety materials came barely two week after the State Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi declared that the government had no plans to ban okada as a means of transportation in the state.

Distributing the safety materials, the Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mr Tayo Ekundayo reiterated the commitment of the Fayemi administration to the welfare of the citizenry; adding that government would continue to support policies and programmes aimed at ensuring the safety of all and sundry.
The Commissioner who stressed that the commercial motorcyclists contribute immensely to the economic growth of the transport sector said that the distribution of the materials is a further proof that the present administration does not have any plan to ban the operation of commercial motorcycles in the State contrary to insinuations in some quarters.
Ekundayo advised the cyclists to imbibe the maintenance culture and make good use of the safety materials while plying their businesses.

Also speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Mr Sola Adebayo advised the motorcyclists to always obey traffic rules and regulations so as to avert accidents.
The State Chairman of the Motorcyclists, Mr Adebo Olu-Martins thanked the State Government for fulfilling the promise made to them last week on the provision of the helmets; saying that the cyclists rest assured and trusts the Fayemi-led administration as a true welfarist government. Olu-Martins assured that members of his association will always use the safety materials and obey traffic regulations.
