December 12, 2013

For the umpteenth time, the Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof Modupe Adelabu yesterday reminded parents of the importance of investing in the education of their children.

Reminding them that education remained the most valuable legacy that could be bequeathed to a child, the deputy governor, who doubles as the Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), urged parents not to consider any amount too much for their child education.

She was speaking at the maiden edition of the end-of-the-year party organised for toddlers at the SUBEB Early Child Development Education Mega Centre, near the State Secretariat Complex, Ado-Ekiti, Adelabu.

The deputy governor described child education as a sure investment that can never fail and the key to future prosperity. She explained that the Early Child Mega Centre, established by the state government is not just a pre-school care centre but a discovery house for children as they are exposed to systematic tutoring and teaching that will enable them to discover themselves even as infants.

Mrs Adelabu spoke of plans to organise a workshop for parents of babies at the Centre on how to handle their kids at home to maintain a link between what the children learn in school and at home.

She told parents that there would be slots for children who were unable to enrol at the Centre when it was inaugurated in October because they had taken their kids to other Day Care Homes, urging such parents to do so when school reopens early next year.

Adelabu, who commended the Mrs Modupe Ajayi-led administration of the Mega Centre for a job well-done, appealed to teachers and parents to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the facility to enable.

Speaking earlier, Mrs. Modupe, the head teacher, lauded the SUBEB chair for her ingenuity in conceiving the idea and ensuring the establishment of the centre.
The head teacher also commended the state government and other non-governmental organisations for their various supports which have assisted the centre to achieve its aims and objectives of giving solid foundation for the future leaders.
