Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof Modupe Adelabu flanked on the left by Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Zone 8, Mr. Christopher Dega and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Mr. Victor Ojo during a courtesy call by the police chief on the deputy at work in Ado-Ekiti.
The Ekiti State Government has renewed its readiness to effectively collaborate with the police and other security agencies in the state to ensure a peaceful electioneering campaign and a hitch-free governorship election scheduled for June 21.
Governor Kayode Fayemi gave the assurance when Mr. Christopher Dega, the Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police in charge of Zone 8,paid visited him at work yesterday.
The governor told his guest, who was in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, that the peace being enjoyed in the Land of Honour State was the result of the robust and cordial relationship that existed between his administration and the police.
Fayemi, who was represented by his deputy, Prof Modupe Adelabu, said that his government will do everything possible to sustain the working relationship in the interest of the state and the nation in general.
He also attributed the prevailing peace to the homogeneity nature of the state, pointing out that Ekiti is inhabited peaceful, hospitable and highly civilized people with strong virtues.
The governor commended the officers and men of the Ekiti State Command of the Nigeria Police for their dedication to duty which has drastically reduced criminal activities, even as he urged them to re-double their efforts to ensure that the imminent electioneering campaign and governorship election in the state go peacefully.
Explaining his mission in Ekiti State, the police chief said he was on a familiarization visit to the state as one of the states under Zone 8 and that he decided to pay a courtesy visit on the governor.
He spoke of plan to meet with the police as well as political stakeholders on the need to maintain peace before, during and after the governorship elections in June.
Besides, Mr Dega also promised to visit Ado-Ekiti monarch, Oba Rufus Adejugbe and other notable stakeholders in the state.
Speaking on the readiness of his men for the June 21 election, Dega said there was no cause for alarm because of the peaceful nature of Ekiti and that the police are been adequately prepared to ensure a hitch-free election. He urged residents to be law-abiding in their preparation for the election.
