Ekiti And Lagos State To Partner On Economic And Industrial Development

In its bid to actualize the vision of Governor Kayode Fayemi on Economic and Industrial Development, Ekiti and Lagos States have agreed to partner with each other.

Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives, Otunba Reim Bodunrin made this known during his meeting with the management of Lagos State Ministry of Commerce and Industry in Lagos, led by the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce & Industry Mrs. Olusola Oworu.

Otunba Bodunrin affirmed that the affected States came together to further their relationship by working as partners in areas of comparative advantage over other States.

He said the coming together of both States will enhance the creation of  more conducive environment for investors and as well foster the South-West integration agenda and sharing of common ideas.

Mr Bodunrin added that partnership in an enterprise will create a an enabling environment for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) since they were employers of about 60 – 75 % of the labour force in Nigeria.

Mr Bodunrin identified major problems of Small Scale Industries which include access to credit facilities, lack of industrial parks, power and road access.

He itemized ongoing and concluded programmes and projects in Lagos State which Ekiti State could benefit from through its partnership agenda.

These projects amongst others include industrial parks, independent power plants, two small industrial estates of twenty two units, domestic trade fairs, Ekiti State Corporate Assembly – (A forum where governor meets with the business Community).

The need to organize south-west trade fair and the importance of an airport to open up Ado-Ekiti and the State were discussed.
