But for the timely intervention of the convoy of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, the lives of six people who were involved in a ghastly auto crash along Itawure-Okemesi road could have been lost.

The accident involving a Nissan Bluebird with Osun State registration  number 208 LES and a Volkswagen Golf with the number Osun 748 LRG occurred around 3:43pm a few minutes before Governor Fayemi’s convoy which was heading for Okemesi for a rally got to the scene.

Governor Fayemi immediately directed the security men in his convoy to rescue the accident victims who were shouting for help to get out of the vehicles where they were trapped.

The two drivers, a young woman, a student and another man were seriously injured and immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Efon where they are now receiving treatment while an old woman who apparently sat at the back of the Nissan Bluebird was unhurt in the accident.

An eyewitness said the driver of the Volkswagen golf had earlier overtaken a vehicle at Okemesi junction shortly before the accident.

The bottle of an alcoholic drink was found inside the Volkswagen and it was presumed that the driver of the car was drunk.
