Adelabu Reiterates Commitment To Development Of Sports

Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu says the state Government was fully committed to making the state a major power house in sporting activities in Nigeria.
Speaking during the weekly keep-fit exercise at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti on Wednesday, Prof. Adelabu stated the resolve of the present administration to continue to invest in sports to enable it serve its purposes for all categories of people within and outside the state.

She noted that sports have gone beyond ordinary physical exercise to become a veritable source of livelihood for many people both locally and internationally. She expressed delight at the skills displayed by some young judo athletes that entertained her during the keep fit exercise.

The Deputy Governor showered encomiums on the athletes, commending them for their skillful demonstrations and urged them to always train in order to keep fit to match their opponents during competitions.

She charged sports organizers and coaches to visit schools after the on-going vacation to organize sporting events for young pupils and students in order to facilitate their interests in sports.

Meanwhile, the state is preparing for the 4th Ekiti State Sports Festival scheduled for October, 2013.

The General Manager of the State Sports Council, Mr. Olukayode Adewumi said the main Organising Committee has been constituted, headed by the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan.

Mr. Adewumi also disclosed that four athletes from Ekiti State are currently in Lagos State to participate in the Lagos International Classic Table Tennis Competition.
The athletes who are Tosin Oribamise, Abayomi Martins, Sunday Oyefusi and Sunday Ayodele are expected to take part in single and double events during the competitions which would last for about 3 weeks.
