63 Ekiti Students Honoured For Excelling In National Mathematical Competition

63 Ekiti students who performed well in the National Mathematical and Science Olympiad Competition held throughout the federation on March 13, 2012 have been given awards of excellence by the National Mathematical Centre, Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony in Ado, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Eniola Ajayi stressed the commitment of government to the provision of qualitative education at all levels.

Dr. Ajayi who was represented by the Director of Evaluation & Standard, Mr. Abiodun Jeje, noted that the present administration had provided a conducive learning environment for students in the State with the renovation of one hundred out of the 183 secondary schools in the first phase of its Operation Renovate All School in Ekiti (ORASE) as well as the provision of furniture in both primary
and secondary schools. She also said that laptop computers had been distributed to students and teachers in both primary and secondary schools to enhance Information Communication Technology in the education sector.

The Education Boss enjoined both teachers and students to complement the efforts of government at lifting education to an enviable height in the state.

In his remarks, the Acting Director of National Mathematical Centre, Professor Rapheal Folarin stressed the importance of Mathematics to scientific and technological development.
According to him, there is a great correlation between the level of development of a nation and study of mathematical Sciences. The subjects where the students got awards are: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and the students emerged from both public and private schools.
