2,250 Indigent Households To Benefit From MDGs Poverty Reduction Programme

A total number of indigent 2,250 households selected from five Local Government Areas of Ekiti State are to benefit from the 2012 Millennium Development Goals Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS) Conditional Cash Transfer (CCTs).

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Integration and Inter – governmental Affairs, Mr. Olusesan Alabi who disclosed this at a meeting with stakeholders drawn from the participating five local governments, said 90 households will benefit per ward in each of the benefitting Council Areas.

Mr. Alabi reiterated the commitment of the present administration to making poverty history in the State, describing the conditional cash transfer (CCT) as a package designed to provide timely cash transfer to extremely poor households on the conditions that they register and keep their children in schools and seek regular health care as well as provide evidence that pregnant women in the households attend regular antenatal care at health centres.

He charged the Chairmen of the five participating local governments to consider the project important and give it all necessary support,stressing that the State Government has paid its CCT counterpart fund.
In his remarks, the MDGs State Focal Person, Mr. James Owolabi charged the Caretaker Chairmen to mobilize and sensitize their communities to ensure a smooth take off of the programme.

Responding, on behalf of the Caretaker Chairmen of the five participating local government areas, the Caretaker Chairman of Ilejemeje LG, Mr. Omoba Adegboroye expressed appreciation to Governor Kayode Fayemi for giving people of their council areas the privilege to benefit from the project and promised to support its implementation.
