Ekiti State government says it plans to generate at least One hundred and fifty million from the three trailer parks whose foundations were laid on Wednesday.
A Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment of an international business shopping centre known as Shoprite was also signed.
Laying the foundation of the park which is to be located at Omuo Oke, Ikere and Ita awure in Efon, the state governor,Dr Kayode Fayemi said the gesture is part of plans to drive the industrial development of the State.
The Governor stressed that the parks would generate no fewer than 1000 job opportunities as well as boost the economic base of the state by generating income to the state coffer.
Fayemi who said the establishment of the parks became necessary following the ban on movement of trailers between 6am and 6pm stated that this will open the host communities to 24 hours business activities.
He added that the each of the parks will accommodate 100 trailers, an administrative building, a mechanic workshop, a fire station, an ambulance bay and a police station for Armoured Personnel Carrier.
The parks will be completed within three months.
While signing the MoU with Grand Towers,owner of Shoprite, the Governor commended the company for the choice of Ekiti for the project.
Fayemi disclosed that the project which is expected to be delivered within 24 months will be wholly funded by Grand Towers, hence the decision of the State government to approve a Certificate of Occupancy for immediate take off of construction work.
He stated that the project would generate 300 permanent jobs and 500 construction job vacancies.
Governor Fayemi however called on diasporans to come home and invest as government is creating a conducive environment for investors.
In his speech, the Chairman of the company, Mr Chidi Duru said the MoU is a fruit of the March 2012 meeting held with the governor, saying that the governor’s readiness to allow investors int he State is responsible for the confidence of his company to come to Ekiti.
Duru assured that virtually all sectors especially the agriculture sector will benefit from the shopping mall.
Meanwhile the Governor has commissioned Ilupeju-Ijan rural electrification project.
The community will now enjoy electricity for the first time ever.
Fayemi said the project is a fulfilment of his electioneering promise to the community.
Other projects commissioned included an Enterprise Development Centre at Aisegba, a Science laboratory at Obada High School and Ilawe – Igbara Odo – Ibuji road among others.
Fayemi said that the new road is an alternative route to Ondo State for people who want to avoid Ado- Akure road which is now in a deplorable state.
He restated his resolve to opening the state up and making all its parts accessible by major roads by 2014.
